Kansas City Chiefs Draft Target No. 8

Cordrea Tankersley – CB – Clemson

If the Kansas City Chiefs are looking for help in the secondary, this is a great year to do it. There are a number of talented corners and safeties that can be had early on. One guy catching my eye is Clemson’s Cordrea Tankersley. The Tigers have put out some quality defensive backs in recent years, and Tankersley might be one of the best.

Ideal height and length for the corner position, Tankersley also shows an understanding of how to use his physical features to create an advantage. Excellent ball skills and has the ability to get himself in good position. Solid speed with good athleticism to help him cover all types of receivers. Is a willing and sound tackler against the run.

There are a few technique issues that Cordrea Tankersley needs to clean up in his game. This is mostly in terms of how he uses his hands. However, the real concern I have with Tankersley is that he doesn’t seem to trust his instincts enough. You can see him second-guessing himself, which will lead to his being in the wrong position.

There will be some work to be done with Cordrea Tankersley, but the Chiefs have some excellent coaches for that job. Having a player like Tankersley on the outside would give the Chiefs some more match up options. However, the KC secondary would continue to be a very young group unless a veteran free agent is added. That could lead to continued issues.
