Kansas City Chiefs: Top Ten Draft Targets For 2017 v. 2
By Ben Almquist
Kansas City Chiefs Draft Target No. 10
Eddie Jackson – SS – Alabama
The Kansas City Chiefs may be looking for a replacement for Eric Berry in 2017. If so, then it is hard to imagine anyone better for the job than Alabama’s Eddie Jackson. The 6’0 195 lbs safety is a natural in the defensive secondary. Jackson is a versatile player that should fit very well into Bob Sutton’s defensive scheme.
Eddie Jackson brings elite level athleticism to the table, along with a nose for both the football and the endzone. The former cornerback put his coverage talents on display in the deep secondary, continuing to force turnovers. Possesses excellent play recognition and an understanding of offensive route concepts.
The biggest drawback on Eddie Jackson is the season ending broken leg he suffered this year. It has substantially impacted his draft status. When healthy, he has few holes in his game. However, Jackson could be more consistent in his tackling form. He also seems to have a tendency to lose focus, causing him to lose track of the ball when its in the air.
Eddie Jackson could easily be much higher on this list, but the broken leg is the key here. Jackson will have to recover and get a clean bill of health before any team is willing to draft him. Even then, it might be a stretch for a team to use a first round pick on the senior. Unfortunately, I doubt that Jackson would make it back around to the Chiefs in the 2nd round of the draft.
