Kansas City Chiefs: Good, Bad, Ugly Vs Carolina Panthers
Ugly: Alex Smith
Alex Smith was horrendous on Sunday. Absolutely horrendous. I probably could have played quarterback better on Sunday and I’m 5’1″ and cry whenever I get sacked on Madden.
Smith went 25 of 38 for 165 yards and no touchdown passes. He threw an interception early on in the game and it came on a play where he attempted to throw it down the field.
The Chiefs did not win this game because of Alex Smith. They won in spite of him.
I’m a supporter of Alex Smith, but this game was not good for him.
He missed wide open targets, including Travis Kelce all alone in the end zone on a first and goal in the fourth quarter. Smith then overthrew Chris Conley on the very next play, which would have gone for a score.
We faulted Nick Foles for missing receivers last week, but Smith looked just as bad, if not worse this week. I’ll criticize where criticisms are due and if this is the Smith we’re going to continue to see after his injury, then yikes.
A big storyline regarding Smith is that the Panthers secondary has not been very good this year. Smith didn’t take advantage of that, which is concerning for sure. It’s amazing that this team was even able to get into field goal range at all quite honestly.
