Kansas City Chiefs: Good, Bad, Ugly Vs Carolina Panthers
Good: Defense
When your offense can’t do anything, it’s important to have a good defense out there on the field. That’s just what the Chiefs had on Sunday, as the defense without a doubt won this game for them.
For one, Dee Ford continued to make us all look stupid, notching his tenth sack of the year and had three total tackles on the day. Ford has emerged as a legitimate pass rusher and just imagine when he’s paired with Justin Houston in a few weeks… Scary.
Second, Eric Berry won the game for Kansas City. He had a tremendous pick six off of Cam Newton in the fourth quarter that put the score at 17-14 in favor of the Panthers. That interception gave the Chiefs momentum and allowed them to win the game.
Third, Marcus Peters pretty much sealed the game for Kansas City. He recovered a fumble near the end of the game to put the Chiefs in field goal range and ultimately give them the edge.
We’ve all seen how far a good defense and mediocre offense can take a team, and that’s a very good sign for this Kansas City Chiefs team.
Peters did punt the ball into the stands, but he still made the recovery and gave his team a chance to win.
The stupid celebrations need to stop though. He got away with the same celebration last week and the refs missed it, but he decided to try it again this week for whatever reason.
The Chiefs defense made great adjustments after half time and held the Panthers scoreless in the second half. The run defense held Carolina’s powerful run game under 100 yards rushing too, which was much needed.
We’ve all seen how far a good defense and mediocre offense can take a team, and that’s a very good sign for this Kansas City Chiefs team. It’d still be nice to see the offense do something, or anything for that matter.
