Secondary

Had this been last season, man that would have been a tough choice. This season, however, the Panthers secondary has been trash. At least near the beginning of the year, that is.

While they’ve looked better in the last few weeks, it’s obvious that the absence of Josh Norman has really hurt Carolina’s pass defense.

Carolina sits 21st in the league in passing yards allowed and Kansas City isn’t too far behind at 25th. The Panthers have eight interceptions on the year and the Chiefs lead the league with 12.

While the Chiefs secondary was torched in their matchup against the Steelers in week four, they’ve fared decently since then. Marcus Peters and Phillip Gaines have made a nice team at the cornerback position, and Eric Berry and Ron Parker continue to do nice work at the safety spots.

The Panthers struggled against offense-heavy teams early in the year (i.e. the Falcons and the Saints). Kansas City only gave up 21 points to New Orleans, Carolina allowed them to score 41. Kansas City has yet to play the Falcons yet, but the Panthers surrendered 48 points to them.

While they’ve looked better in the last few weeks, it’s obvious that the absence of Josh Norman has really hurt Carolina’s pass defense. They don’t have the playmaker out there to cause a big turnover either.

Chiefs all day every day.

Advantage: Kansas City
