Ugly: Drew Lock’s Ill-Timed Mistakes

I talked earlier about turnovers for the Missouri Tigers.  However, the interceptions by quarterback Drew Lock really loom large in this game.  For most of the match up, Lock played very well.  He was able to move the Tigers up and down the field on the Gamecocks.  It is not a stretch to say that Lock’s mistakes were a major catalyst in the loss.

The first interception probably hurts the worst.  The Tigers had driven into South Carolina territory with the score tied at 21-21.  Any kind of score here would have given Mizzou their first lead of the day.  However, the interception by Rashad Fenton would eventually lead to the deciding score for the Gamecocks.

The second interception wasn’t quite as frustrating, but still stung.  The Tigers were again driving into Gamecocks territory, though with time running down.  Drew Lock then sailed a pass too high and it was picked off in the endzone.  This gave the ball back to South Carolina for the final time as they ran out the clock.  Those blemishes on Drew Lock’s day were clearly instrumental in the loss.
