K-State football lost a close game at home on Saturday. They’re now 5-4 on the season and 3-3 in the Big 12.
Well that was an interesting game, to say the least.
In a game where it came down to the last four seconds of the game, K-State football fell short on their own turf to offensive heavy Oklahoma State. It wasn’t the result that Kansas State hoped for, but it was a hard fought game.
The Wildcats got off to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Cowboys roared back quickly. The defense had no answers for Mason Rudolph and his many offensive weapons and it showed. The OSU quarterback threw for five touchdowns on the day.
It was a sloppy game for the Cats, but it could have been a lot worse. The offense showed up and made it a close game, but this one fell on the defense’s failures.
Let’s take a look at this week’s report card for K-State football.
Easily the best part of this game for Kansas State was their rushing attack, which was electric from the start. Play after play, the Wildcats shoved the run game down the throats of the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
They totaled 345 yards on the ground off of a whopping 56 carries. It was their best bet all day, as Jesse Ertz couldn’t do anything in the passing game.
Ertz carried the ball 30 times for 153 yards, a career high. He also rushed for three touchdowns.
Charles Jones, who I mentioned in my “Three Things to Watch” post, actually saw the football a lot. He got the ball seven times for 70 yards and looked like he was on a mission to prove himself.
It’s sad that on a day when the offense rushed for over 300 yards that they couldn’t come away with a victory, but this is college football after all.
