Linebackers

Dee Ford has finally gotten going when it comes to putting pressure on the quarterback. He’s tied for fifth in the league in sacks with seven and a half and leads the KC Chiefs in the same statistic.

  • After last week’s dominant defensive showing against the Colts, Kansas City jumped from last place to 21st in the league in sacks (it’s a four-way tie for 21st). Meanwhile, the Jaguars sit tied for 25th in the league in sacks.

The biggest buzz defensively for Jacksonville is Telvin Smith. Smith hasn’t had any sacks so far this season, but he appears to be one of the few big highlights from this young Jags defense.

My co-editor Ben Almquist asked Daniel Lago of Black and Teal who the team’s “unknown factor” was, and Lago answered with Smith. Almquist had some evaluation on the young member of the Jacksonville defense,

"It’s not a stretch to call him one of the best 4-3 outside linebackers in the NFL right now. However, his effectiveness seems to be limited by a defense that doesn’t play well together. I see a lot of solid individual performances, but nobody is playing unselfish football. Again, that’s a ding on the coaching."

I’ve worked with Ben for several months now and he has no reason to lie to me. The Chiefs linebackers are better than Jacksonville’s.

    Advantage: Kansas City
