KC Royals: Five Potential Landing Spots for Kendrys Morales
Potential Landing Spots for Morales – Number 4: Toronto Blue Jays
This one would sting, as the Royals and Blue Jays haven’t really been the best of friends over the past few years. As much as it would sting, however, it could make sense for Morales to join the Jays in good ol’ Canada.
Jose Bautista is hitting the free agent market this year and is likely going to demand a large contract.
The Blue Jays would be out of their minds to give Bautista the kind of money he was asking for (five years worth $150, according to the Rotowire staff back in April) and his production in 2016 backs that up.
If Toronto lets some other sucker sign Bautista, then the DH spot would be open for business in Canada.
Edwin Encarnacion often rotate with Bautista at the designated hitter spot and would play first when he wasn’t DH’ing. Morales is the exact same kind of guy, playing first, but mostly DH’ing. That’d be the reason I could see the Blue Jays shying away from him, but they love guys who can slug, and Morales is that guy.
I’d really hate to see this happen, but it’s entirely possible.
