Kansas City Chiefs: Intriguing QB Situation Brews For Chiefs
By Ben Almquist
The Kansas City Chiefs have been led by quarterback Alex Smith since his arrival in 2013. However, the Chiefs future with the position may be in question moving forward.
The Kansas City Chiefs already have a set starting quarterback in Alex Smith. Since his arrival with Andy Reid in 2013, the Chiefs have been a much improved team. Along the way, KC has gotten some big monkeys off their back, and Smith has had a lot to do with that. There is no quarterback controversy in Kansas City…but there is an interesting situation developing.
Quarterback Alex Smith has been a point of contention for Kansas City Chiefs fans since his arrival. There is no doubt that Smith has never lived up to his draft status as a first overall pick. However, there is also no doubt that the Chiefs have been a much better team since his arrival in 2013. That hasn’t detracted those who dislike the veteran quarterback though.
So when Alex Smith went down for the second time against the Indianapolis Colts today, that sparked a conversation that had largely died down. Backup quarterback Nick Foles was given the keys to the offense for much of the game today. Foles made the most of that opportunity by putting on a quality performance to help lead the Chiefs to victory.
If the situation sounds familiar, that is because it is almost exactly how Smith’s time in San Francisco came to an end. That has a number of fans curious about what is going to happen next for the Chiefs. Realistically, there are a lot of factors that play into this. That also leaves a number of results that could play out.
