Kansas City Chiefs: Five Trades To Consider Before the Deadline
By Ben Almquist
Jason McCourty – CB – Tennessee Titans
Chiefs Give: 2017 4th Round Pick
Kansas City Chiefs fans knew that there would be some growing pains for the secondary this year. While talented, it is a young group. That is especially true at cornerback where the most experienced player is third year man Phillip Gaines. Unfortunately, Phillip Gaines has also continued to struggle with injuries. So adding veteran corner Jason McCourty would be an ideal move.
Jason McCourty isn’t a superstar at cornerback, but he is a reliable veteran that can hold his own. At this point the Titans know that they won’t be contending this year. That means any pieces they can add to the rebuilding process should be welcome. Additional cap space and a mid round pick should be enough to make this deal happen.
With Jason McCourty only becoming a free agent in 2018, he will carry some value for the Titans in a trade. The Chiefs, meanwhile, will have a viable option for their secondary to finish out 2016 and be on board for 2017. That helps tremendously both now and later during the 2017 NFL Draft. Overall, that’s solid value for both teams.
