KU Basketball Bold Predictions Number Four: Lagerald Vick Offers a Spark

Even if the three starting guards average thirty minutes a game, that still leaves thirty more to be split up between Mykhailiuk and Vick.

The Ukrainian is more hyped than Vick, but Mykhailiuk has not lived up to his reputation as a great shooter yet. While Mykhailiuk did improve from 28.8 percent from three-point range as a freshman to 40.5 percent last year, that still isn’t eye-popping.

Legerald Vick might just develop the skill set to get more than his fair share of minutes off the bench this season.

The question becomes – Can Vick maintain or improve on his 47.1 percent shooting from behind the arc?

Most of his points came in garbage time last season. How will he perform when faced with tighter defenses that will be aware of his previous marksmanship?

Vick plays with high energy and enthusiasm. He is long and could develop into a terrific defensive player. If he can make progress on the defensive end and can continue to shoot for a high percentage, he might be able to supplant Mykhailiuk as the primary guard off the bench.

Svi Mykhailiuk is a fine reserve player, but Legerald Vick might just develop the skill set to get more than his fair share of minutes off the bench this season.

Mykhailiuk probably has earned Self’s trust at this point, but if Vick can control his nerves and show improvements in key areas, he can be an invaluable spark for this team off the bench this season.
