Kansas City Chiefs: Top 10 Draft Targets For 2017

Kansas City Chiefs Draft Target No. 7
Brad Kaaya: QB – Miami
On April 26th, 1983 the Kansas City Chiefs selected quarterback Todd Blackledge from Penn State. In the single biggest over-correction in NFL Draft history, the Chiefs have not taken a quarterback in the first round since. This has been a sore spot for Chiefs fans ever since, but the solution may come this year in Brad Kaaya of Miami.
A pocket passer with a good head for football, Brad Kaaya is probably the lone bright spot in the Hurricane offense. Kaaya shows the ability to make quality pre-snap reads and manipulate defenders. Both of those traits are rare in today’s college QBs. He shows quality accuracy along with a quick release that will make him an ideal passer in the West Coast Offense.
The negatives on Brad Kaaya are mostly about his size. He has a lean frame that leaves him open to big hits. His throwing motion is also a little long, which gives pass rushers more time to get at him. Kaaya also has some bad habits that have developed behind an awful offensive line, including throwing off his back foot at times.
Brad Kaaya comes with some question marks, but nothing that isn’t correctable. Teams will want him to add some weight, but that’s not a deal breaker. The big thing is that Kaaya possesses the intangibles that you look for. He understands the game of football and plays the quarterback position as it is meant to be played. Not just an athlete who can throw the ball.
