Kansas City Chiefs: Top 10 Draft Targets For 2017
By Ben Almquist
Kansas City Chiefs Draft Target No. 8
Sam Hubbard – DE – Ohio State
The Kansas City Chiefs pass rush has fall off dramatically without Justin Houston on the field. That means you can expect to see quite a few pass rushers on my board. John Dorsey doesn’t usually draft for immediate need, but this should be an exception. First up for my pass rushers is Sam Hubbard of Ohio State.
Sam Hubbard is a highly touted pass rusher who possesses incredible natural athleticism. A high school standout at both safety and linebacker, Hubbard has continued to grow into his frame. He demonstrates a knack for finding the ball in the opposing backfield, and has the athletic talent to exploit holes. Hubbard presents a challenge for blockers from almost every angle.
Still young and relatively inexperienced, especially at the defensive end position. Sam Hubbard will have some growing pains if he transitions to yet another new position when he goes to the NFL. There is also a question as to just how big he will get. Already at 265, Hubbard may end up simply being too big to play 3-4 OLB.
The draftability of Sam Hubbard for the Kansas City Chiefs ranges from “no brainer” to “just the wrong fit”. Honestly, it all depends on how much weight Hubbard puts on. If he goes above the 275 mark, I’ll say the Chiefs should pass on him. If he maintains his weight though, this could be a great fit.
