Kansas City Chiefs: Top 10 Draft Targets For 2017

Kansas City Chiefs Draft Target No. 9
Eddie Jackson – SS – Alabama
There is still some uncertainty regarding the future of safety Eric Berry with the Kansas City Chiefs. Until that is settled, safety will certainly be a primary concern for the Chiefs front office. Yes, the team has Daniel Sorensen and Eric Murray. However, it would be foolish to declare either of them as being able to fill in as an every down starter. The Chiefs may need to look to the draft, and Eddie Jackson of Alabama looks like a good one.
If you were looking for an Eric Berry clone, Eddie Jackson might be it. However, Jackson may actually be even more athletic. The former cornerback turned safety is a natural at forcing turnovers. Jackson also shows a willingness to lay down big hits. He also possesses strong route recognition as well as the athleticism to change direction in coverage.
On the negative side, Eddie Jackson isn’t consistent in his tackling form. While he has racked up an impressive number of interceptions, Jackson has also let a number get away from him. In coverage, Jackson will tend to stay focused on the receiver and forget to look for the ball. He can play a bit out of control at times.
Eddie Jackson is still a bit raw as a safety, but there is no question that the talent is there. Jackson regularly exhibits the traits that you look for in a safety. With his versatility he especially fits into the Chiefs defense as he can line up as either a corner or a safety. That would give Bob Sutton the flexibility that his defense thrives on.
