Kansas City Chiefs: Next Five Games Key For Playoff Push
By Ben Almquist
The Kansas City Chiefs survived an early stretch of tough games. Now they have a chance to make a real push for the playoffs with five winnable games on deck.
The Kansas City Chiefs faced a tough test at the beginning of the season. KC weathered that storm and came out with a 3-2 record. That is a success by any reasonable measure. Now the Chiefs are in prime position to make a push for the playoffs with five winnable games up next. If the Chiefs can take four or five of these games, they will likely ensure a postseason appearance.
The Chiefs are a good team. We know this much. However, how good this KC squad is still remains in question. The next five games won’t necessarily prove anything in that regard, but they should put the Chiefs in position to make a run at the playoffs. Regardless of anything else, a playoff birth is what is most important.
Five games against opponents who currently have losing records should be exactly what the Chiefs need. That is especially true when you consider the team just came off their best game of the season against the Raiders. A road win against a quality division opponent should help boost their confidence.
Perfect Timing
Also helping that confidence should be the return of Justin Houston. The latest reports seem to suggest that Houston could be back on the field against the Colts. That would be a huge boost to the team at just the right time. The Chiefs defense has had some quality performances, but also some let downs. Justin Houston should help bring stability to the group.
If the Chiefs can win these next five games, they will be sitting at 8-2 with six weeks to find two or three more wins. In the meantime, the rest of the AFC West will be facing a much tougher schedule. This is the opportunity that the Chiefs need to take control of the division and secure an AFC West championship.
However, the teams on the Chiefs schedule will have something to say about that…
