Hosmer setting new career records

While it might have seemed like Eric Hosmer had a huge slump during the 2016 season, he actually had himself a nice year with the KC Royals. In fact, this was arguably the best season of Hosmer’s career, even if it didn’t end with him stealing home in Game 5 of the World Series.

  • His batting average wasn’t great in 2016, which is why I said it could “arguably” have been a career year for the first baseman, but he did set new career records.

For one, Hosmer finally broke his home run record. He had slammed 19 home runs during his rookie year in 2011 and hadn’t been able to hit more than that since then.

In 2016, however, Hosmer was able to smash 25 home runs and shatter his old rookie home run record.

It was the type of record that Hosmer needed to break, as he’ll be hitting free agency at the end of the 2017 season and could be seeking a large contract.

On top of breaking the home run record, Hosmer topped a career best in RBI as well, plating 104 runs for his fellow team mates. His previous record was 93 RBI in 2015.

Even though Hosmer’s slash line wasn’t the most impressive (.266/.328/.433), he proved he can still hit for power and help the team out.
