Kansas City Chiefs rookie wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, might not have fantasy football value this season but he should next season and the years after that. Having guys with upside on the bench in a dynasty league is vital for a team’s long-term success. Hill could provide that kind of upside.

Tyreek Hill got drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round, pick 165, out of the University of West Alabama. Hill played for Oklahoma State University for one season but off of the field issues caused him to be cut by the university.

Hill enrolled at the University of West Alabama to continue playing football. During his one season at Oklahoma State, Hill put up some numbers for the Cowboys. On 133 plays from scrimmage, he totaled 815 yards and two touchdowns. Most of his damage came as a runner. He racked up 534 yards and one touchdown on 102 rushing attempts in 12 games for Oklahoma State.

At West Alabama, Hill did it all. He played running back and wide receiver while also contributing in the punt and kick return game. As a running back, he added 237 yards and a touchdown on 25 attempts. He hauled in 27 passes for 444 yards and three touchdowns as a receiver. The speedster ran back two kickoffs and two punts for touchdowns as well.

The Kansas City Chiefs saw great things from Hill at his pro day. He ran a 4.24 40-yard dash time. That is an insane number for the “wide receiver” and one of the many reasons the Chiefs drafted him in the fifth round. He could have gone much higher in the draft if it wasn’t for his off of the field issues.

As a Chief, Hill’s impressed the coaching staff each week with his ability to learn the system and produce on game days. Kansas City Chiefs beat reporter for the Kansas City Star, Terez A. Paylor, wrote an article the other day with great quotes from the coaching staff about Hill’s improvements.

Receiver’s coach, David Culley, said that Hill can make adjustments on the fly.

"“Oh yes, he can do that,” Culley said. “He’s just a natural. That’s just natural instincts, where guys see things happen. Sometimes we say: player, when things break down on the field, you’ve just got to be a football player and adjust. Well, he has the ability to do those types of things.”"

Culley also said that Hill can play both the X and Y skill positions on the field for the Kansas City Chiefs and your fantasy football team.

"“He can,” Culley said, referring to the position opposite the “Z,” which star receiver Jeremy Maclin plays. “Once he gets to the point where he knows what he’s doing, he can be a good player in this league.”“At X or Z,” he said."

This should be sweet music to the ears of all dynasty fantasy football owners. Currently, Hill is owned in 0.2% of NFL.com leagues. That’s great news for teams that want to acquire Hill’s services. Hill’s gotten better each week for the Chiefs.

Last week, he was the “garbage man” for lack of a better term. Hill put up a solid fantasy football outing when the game got out of hand for the Kansas City Chiefs putting up eight points in a standard league. He caught five passes for 24 yards and a touchdown.

More from Fantasy Football

In four games for the Kansas City Chiefs, Hill’s received 11 catches on 14 targets for 67 yards and two receiving touchdowns. He’s tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns with the tight end, Travis Kelce.

If your league adds points for returns, Hill is a must own. Hill’s returned 11 punts for 147 yards and seven kickoffs for 158 yards. His longest punt return went 32 yards and his longest kickoff return went for 33 yards. These numbers could have been much better if it wasn’t for stupid penalties on the Chiefs’ special teams unit negating two return touchdowns (one punt and one kickoff ).

Don’t be scared off that Hill is currently fourth in the progression list for Alex Smith this season. He will move up the ranks sooner than any of us think. He’s got the talent to do so and he’s impressing the coaching staff. That should get him more playing time this season and especially in the seasons to come.

Hill is currently behind Jeremy Maclin, Travis Kelce and Chris Conley on the progression list for the quarterback, Alex Smith. This will change and it could change this season.
