Running backs aren’t easy to acquire in fantasy football these days, especially a guy with a ton of talent. Injuries at the position make it even more important to have at least one good running back on your roster. This is where Jamaal Charles comes in.

Kansas City Chiefs running back, Jamaal Charles, is done with his bye week. The Chiefs took an early bye week last week. This is great news for fantasy football owners looking to acquire Charles. If you get him, you won’t have to worry about his bye week situation because it’s now finished.

However, something you will have to deal with is the Kansas City Chiefs running back corp. The Chiefs can tout out a few good running backs each week. The list of serviceable backs is long. Here are the Kansas City Chiefs runnings backs currently on the active roster: Jamaal Charles (duh), Spencer Ware, Charcandrick West and Knile Davis.

Davis doesn’t see the field much as a pure running back. He is mostly a kick returner for the Kansas City Chiefs. West is dealing with an ankle sprain and may or may not be ready to return this week. Ware is healthy but has struggled to hold onto the football, coughing up three fumbles through the first four games of the season.

Charles played for the Chiefs last game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Kansas City Chiefs played Charles due to West being unable to play. However, the dynamic running back didn’t play much at all. He compiled seven rushing yards in the blowout loss on the road.

Charles’ current fantasy football owners might be getting frustrated with him due to his lack of playing meaningful snaps for their teams. This is where you come in and try your best to get him in a trade.

More from Fantasy Football

Jamaal Charles leads the NFL in yards per carry for all running backs to ever play the position ever at 5.5 yards per carry average. That stat alone should be making your mouth water with anticipation of having him on your team. The news gets even better, Charles is now healthy and should see his workload increase quite a bit this weekend versus the porous Oakland Raiders defense.

According to ESPN, the Oakland Raiders run defense is 28th in the NFL. The Raiders are giving up 4.9 yards per carry and 122 yards on the ground to opposing running backs this season. This is great news for Kansas City Chiefs running backs and their fantasy football owners.

After coming off an ACL injury in 2011, Charles did well in 2012. He played in every game for the Kansas City Chiefs finishing the year with 1,745 total yards with six touchdowns. Not a bad comeback after major knee surgery.

He won’t put those kinds of stats up for your team this season but he will do well. Barring an injury, Charles has 12 more regular season games to be played and a heavier workload coming his way soon. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him get near 1,000 total yards this season.

Why do I say that? Because he had 541 total yards in five games played before he got hurt last year. If he stayed on that pace and didn’t get hurt, he would have tripled that number. The man is an absolute stud and should be feared by the Raiders this week.

Charles could be a great flex play or possibly a running back two against the atrocious Raiders defense this weekend. It only takes one play for him to bust off a long run for a touchdown, saving your fantasy football squad.

When trading for Jamaal Charles, make sure you mention the running backs Charles will have to contend with for playing time. It’s like buying a used car in a way. Never point out what’s right with it to the seller. Always look for the flaws. Make the car seem horrible to the owner so they get rid of it to you on the cheap. Also, mention Charles’ injury history and age (29 going on 30). These things will help you get him cheaper than normal.
