Yes, the Kansas City Royals missed the postseason in 2016, but it wasn’t solely because of these five players.

The KC Royals missed the playoffs because of injuries. Plain and simple.

Joakim Soria was bad, yes, that’s a fact, but he wasn’t 100% responsible for this team not being able to contend for a third straight World Series appearance.

Alex Gordon couldn’t hit a baseball much this season, but the rest of his teammates struggled offensively too.

Edinson Volquez was a lousy starter this year, but was he responsible for the team not making it to the playoffs? No, although that 12-run game was embarrassing.

Chris Young and Kris Medlen failed to get the job done as starters, but not making the playoffs wasn’t their fault either.

The truth is that injuries killed this team, and the ball didn’t bounce their way this season like it had in 2014 and 2015. They lost a lot of close games in an unfortunate manner, but that’s sports for you. It happens to everyone.

Two of these guys are free agents after the playoffs wrap up and probably won’t be re-joining the Kansas City Royals in 2017. The other three have at least one more year to show Kansas City what they’re really capable of.

What do you think, Royals fans? Were there other players that disappointed you in 2016?
