Most Disappointing Royals in 2016 – Number 4: Chris Young

Chris Young was downright awful in 2016. It’s a shame too because the guy played a huge part in getting this team a World Series trophy the season prior.

Instead, Young struggled in both the rotation and in the bullpen. He was atrocious as a starter, only getting the ball in 13 starts. Overall, he ended the season with a 6.19 ERA, which obviously wasn’t what the Royals envisioned when they re-signed him to a two-year deal last offseason.

He kept getting put back in the rotation because due to injuries, the team really didn’t have many other choices.

The World Series hero struggled early on though. He got pounded for six runs in his second start and ended the month of April with a 6.17 ERA.

Young was put on the disabled list, but then jumped back and forth between the rotation and the bullpen. He kept getting put back in the rotation because due to injuries, the team really didn’t have many other choices.

Young is what he is though. He typically can go about five innings and will give up several runs in the process. He’s a, as the guys on 610’s “The Drive” say, a long fly ball pitcher (implying that he gives up a ton of home runs, which is true). He gave up 28 home runs this year.

After a season where he posted a 3.06 ERA and helped win the team a championship, Chris Young disappointed greatly. Hopefully he rebounds next season because he is under contract for 2017 as well.
