The KC Royals need to add an effective fifth starter and maybe that guy is in this crop of free agents this offseason.

The boys in blue have never been a team to aggressively attack free agency due to the expenses. This year could be different though, as they’re pushing to make one more World Series appearance in 2017 with the current group of guys they have.

Adding a name like Brett Anderson or Brandon Morrow could be beneficial for the 2017 Royals due to the fact that this team still has some holes. The starting pitching saw its really bad days this season and adding a reliable starter could be a nice idea for Dayton Moore and company.

While names like Jeremy Hellickson and Rich Hill are likely going to be too expensive for the Royals, there are plenty of more affordable options that the team could sign to a one-year deal. These would be guys like R.A. Dickey or Hisashi Iwakuma, both veteran pitchers who might have enough left in the tank to help push the Royals back to the World Series.

While we won’t have much action in free agency until later this year or even early next year, the Kansas City Royals need to look into acquiring a fifth starter, and these are just a few of the options they have.

Who would you want to see the KC Royals sign during free agency? Would you want the Royals to pick up a free agent or to stick with who they have?
