Kansas City Chiefs: Marcus Peters Takes A Stand

Why Take A Stance
Marcus Peters is the only member of the Kansas City Chiefs currently making a protest. In fact, Peters is the only professional athlete based out of Kansas City protesting. Neither the Royals or Sporting KC currently have any players taking a stance. Right, wrong, just, or misguided, that does take a certain amount of courage on his part.
Of course, Peters is not alone on the whole. There are many professional athletes across the country making their protests known. Also, there are plenty of fans and people in the media who support his cause. However, being the lone person on the field making that statement, with all eyes focused on him, is still daunting.
Why would someone take that upon themselves? There are those who would say that he is seeking the spotlight just for the attention. Some believe he is ignorant of the “true issues”. However, there certainly is a strong possibility that a young black man from Oakland, California may have witnessed some less than perfect conduct by police officers.
For those who don’t know, the Oakland Police Department has been under federal monitoring since 2003 for a variety of issues. Police brutality, racism, corruption, sex scandals, and even murders. The department has long been considered among the worst in the nation. Certainly that has to play some role in how Marcus Peters sees the world.
