The Ugly: A Huge Missed Tackle and the Upcoming Schedule

For as poorly as the Kansas City Chiefs played on Sunday, the team stayed in the game late. The defense had an opportunity to force the Texans to punt if the Chiefs could stop the Texans from getting a first down on third and five just passed the middle of the field.

The Texans threw the ball to running back, Jonathan Grimes, on a quick throw to the sideline. Two Chiefs were there to possibly bring him down but both missed. Phillip Gaines tried to wrap up Grimes’ leg but he fell down on his stomach thanks to an impressive juke by Grimes. The other Chiefs player didn’t have an angle to tackle the speedy running back.

Grimes picked up 13-yards on the play leading to a Houston field goal that put the game out of reach for Kansas City. Houston took the lead 19 to 9 at that point in the game. The Chiefs would add another field goal put couldn’t recover the onside kick and lost the game.

The Kansas City Chiefs are 1-1 through the first two games of the 2016-2017 season. The Chiefs next game comes against a solid New York Jets team at Arrowhead stadium on September 25th.

The Jets have a stable of wide receivers the Chiefs will have to contend with. The Chiefs need to get better at covering wide receivers before week three rolls around or Kansas City could be 1-2 this time next week.

The next game for the Chiefs after the Jets game is on the road against the Pittsburg Steelers. The Steelers running back, Le’Veon Bel, will be back from suspension that game. He could be a little rusty so the Chiefs could catch a small break here but not really. Bell was suspended for the first four games of the season only to have the suspension reduced by a game putting his return game against the Chiefs. Not fair NFL.
