Blazing Hot August

While the fans thought the Royals might be done, the team didn’t. They bounced back yet again in August.

After winning just 33 percent of their games from the end of June, through all of July, and early in August, the KC Royals had another hot streak in them.

Over the next three weeks, the team’s win total soared with the summer temperature. They were scorching hot, going 18-5, including a fantastic winning streak of nine games.

The pitching staff held opponents to one run or fewer seven times in those nine outings. The bullpen set a franchise record by throwing 42.1 shutout innings in that magical stretch.

This torrid August streak thrust the Royals right back into the playoff race, and everyone was feeling great. This is a team who made their reputation over the past two seasons as a group that never gave up.

Unfortunately, the good vibes wouldn’t last.
