Safety

Ron ParkerDaniel Sorensen, and Eric Murray

Cut – Brock Vereen and Shak Randolph

Roster Exemption – Eric Berry

The Kansas City Chiefs got great news with the return of Eric Berry.  Having Berry in the fold brings stability to the back end of the defense.  Along with Ron Parker, the Chiefs starting safeties are a very capable pair.  However, the loss of Husain Abdullah to retirement is still a concern.

Chiefs Don’t Keep 5th Safety:  The surprise here is simply that the Chiefs did not keep a fifth safety.  While Daniel Sorensen and Eric Murray both have some talent, there is a steep drop off from the starters.  Sorensen is better as a Special Teams player and Murray is a rookie.  There were a number of veterans to fill a fifth safety role, but the Chiefs let them all go.

Reliable Depth Is Needed:  The Chiefs are risking a lot without proven veteran depth.  This will actually be the first year KC has gone that route.  One would guess that the Chiefs are putting a lot on Sorensen and Murray, but that doesn’t get my confidence.  Another option should be located as a reliable fallback.
