KC Chiefs: Five Potential Landing Spots for Aaron Murray
Possible Landing Spots for Aaron Murray – Number 3: San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers brought on Chip Kelly this past offseason to coach their team, and they’re having a bit of a quarterback carousel out on the bay.
Colin Kaepernick was the team’s second round pick in 2011 and he led them to a Super Bowl (Alex Smith helped). The Niners then did away with Smith after the 2012 season and he came to Kansas City.
The 49ers may need a quarterback, but somehow I don’t see them targeting a guy who’s been third on the depth chart for two years now.
Kap led the Niners to the NFC Championship game the next season, but has faltered ever since. He’s recently made headlines in another way (we won’t touch on that in this post), but is at risk of losing his starting job to Blaine Gabbert.
The fact that Blaine Gabbert is San Francisco’s best option is a reason why they should consider bringing Aaron Murray on. I’m not sold on Gabbert being a legit starting quarterback in the NFL, and the Niners could be in trouble if they stick with him for too long.
As for the chances of this happening, again… I think it’s unlikely. The 49ers may need a quarterback, but somehow I don’t see them targeting a guy who’s been third on the depth chart for two years now.
