Which Backup Quarterback Will Step Up?

The Kansas City Chiefs have two solid quarterbacks on the roster in Alex Smith and Nick Foles. The other three quarterbacks are somewhat unknowns at this time. The KC Chiefs are carrying five quarterbacks right now. This should be cut down to four at the most with a possibility of three being left on the table.

As of now, Tyler Bray is the Chiefs third string quarterback. The undrafted free agent from Tennessee hasn’t taken one snap of regular season NFL action  since being added to the Chiefs roster in 2013.

The 24-year-old has all the measurements to be a good NFL quarterback. Bray is 6’6″ tall and 232 lbs. He can sling the football with the best of the quarterbacks on the Kansas City Chiefs roster including Smith and Foles.

Bray will get the start for the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday vs. the Green Bay Packers. Keep in mind this will be his first preseason game of the 2016 season due to a back injury he sustained during training camp.

He doesn’t have much competition behind him. Aaron Murray and Kevin Hogan look to play well in the final preseason game. Murray hasn’t looked good in the preseason and Hogan hasn’t received too many snaps.

Murray fumbled the football three times two weeks ago on the road against the Los Angeles Rams. He’s complete 15 of 23 passes for 165 yards in three preseason games this year. He’s fumbled the ball four times, luckily losing just one of those.

Hogan‘s played in two of three preseason games in is first year in the NFL. He’s completed four of eight passes for 25 yards. The KC Chiefs drafted Hogan in the fifth round pick 162 overall in May out of Stanford University.

The Chiefs should give Bray the first half of the game and the third quarter to Murray and the fourth quarter to Hogan. The loser of the competition could be traded or cut.
