Missouri Tigers: 2016 NCAA Football Season Preview
By Ben Almquist
Players To Watch: Defense
Michael Scherer – Linebacker – Senior
Every team needs a leader, and it appears that linebacker Michael Scherer is poised to be that leader for the Missouri Tigers. Scherer is on the Butkus Award Watch List for the second straight season, and is expected to build off of very impressive sophomore and junior campaigns. It will fall to him to keep the Tigers defense on track.
Josh Augusta – Defensive Tackle – Senior
A lot of the Tigers’ defensive success is going to depend on which Josh Augusta we see in 2016. Will he be the physical phenomenon that he has flashed at times? Or are we going to get the guy that was buried on the depth chart and in the coach’s dog house for much of his career? Augusta has the ability, either way, to make a significant impact on Mizzou’s 2016 season.
Charles Harris – Defensive End – Junior (redshirt)
The Tigers have produced some quality NFL talent over the past few years, and Charles Harris is the top hope for that trend to continue. The junior pass rusher is considered by many pundits to be a top tier draft prospect for 2017, but much of that will hinge on Harris having a strong 2016 campaign.
