Run Defense Shows Up

Another major concern for the Kansas City Chiefs after the loss to the Rams was the run defense.  The Chiefs are known for their defense, so it was surprising and alarming when the Rams were able to rack up yards at will.  If the Chiefs run defense can’t hold, this could be a long season.

However, there was no sign of a problem this week as the Chiefs dominated the trenches.  On the opening Bears drive, the Chiefs were able to get into the backfield on three of four runs.  One of those did turn into a positive play for the Bears as Derrick Johnson could not secure the tackle.  However, that is not a problem Chiefs fans should expect to show up in the regular season.

At the end of the day, the Chiefs held the Bears to just 59 yards on the ground.  That includes limiting starting running back Jeremy Lanford to a paltry 2.8 yard per carry.  Langford led all Chicago rushers with just 17 yards on the ground.  That is a very impressive performance for the Chiefs defense.
