Can Outside Linebackers Get Pressure?

The Kansas City Chiefs have not answered the top question of the past two weeks.  Can Dee Ford, Frank Zombo, and the rest finally start to generate a pass rush?  Frankly, the lack of an outside pass rush is the key to all the other defensive woes.  If KC has to use the defensive line to rush the passer, it changes a lot of what they do on defense.

Dee Ford has been a disappointment so far this preseason.  Chiefs fans were hoping he would finally put it all together and step up.  However, Ford has not shown any signs of development from 2015.  John Dorsey should probably be looking at other options at this point.

Tamba Hali’s return should help the situation when he gets back on the field, but Kansas City needs more.  Part of why the Chiefs pass rush is the top question is that it plays a direct role in how Bob Sutton schemes the rest of the defense.  With a better outside pass rush, the run defense and cornerbacks should also play better.

I expect the Chiefs to look much sharper against the Bears.  While Chicago does have some dangerous weapons, the front office is still building the roster.  Kansas City should also be able to impose its will on offense, especially running the ball.  This game provides KC with a very good opportunity to build some confidence heading towards the regular season.
