Potential September Call-Ups – Number 8: Miguel Almonte

Miguel Almonte should be a given to be called up in September, as he’s supposed to be one of the KC Royals’ promising young stars for the rotation.

Almonte is only 23 and saw action for the Royals last season, in which he didn’t fare too well. He compiled a 6.23 ERA in nine games (8.2 innings pitched) with a 0-2 record and gave up four home runs.

Almonte has the potential to be a great pitcher for the Royals, but his 2016 minor league campaign hasn’t been the most impressive.

One of the worst moments for Almonte came during a game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field in which he gave up the walk-off home run in extra innings. I was at that game and knew as soon as I saw the pitch that the game was over.

Almonte has the potential to be a great pitcher for the Royals, but his 2016 minor league campaign hasn’t been the most impressive. He has a 6.03 average ERA between his time with Northwest Arkansas and Omaha with a combined record of 4-7.

Even with Almonte’s struggles in the minor leagues this season, he’s going to get called up in September, and the Royals will throw him out into games. That’s the only way he can get better.
