Potential September Call-Ups – Number 5: Kris Medlen

Kris Medlen has been a disappointment for the KC Royals this season. Once in the rotation, Medlen started six games for the Royals and notched an ugly 7.77 ERA during those starts with a 1-3 record.

Medlen will be pitching for a new contract and can hopefully restore Royals nation’s faith in him.

Medlen had pitched in 24.1 innings before it was announced that he was injured and would have to go on the disabled list. That was back in May, and Medlen has yet to return to the ball club.

With the rosters expanding in a week, Medlen will surely be re-joining his teammates in Kansas City. He won’t see a start again (at least let’s hope not), but he could easily provide relief out of the bullpen.

Royals fans saw Medlen “have it” at times last season. In 2015 he had a 3.60 ERA during the playoffs, and everyone hoped he’d be around that average this season.

Instead, Medlen disappointed early on and in the final year of his contract, there won’t be any reason to hold him back in games going down the stretch. Medlen will be pitching for a new contract and can hopefully restore Royals nation’s faith in him.
