Chris Jones

The KC Chiefs made Chris Jones out of Mississippi State their first round in the 2016 NFL Draft. They actually traded out of the first round (much to a lot of Chiefs fans’ dismay), but ended up getting a steal in the second round with Jones.

Jones was one of the few guys who attended the draft in person and he was dancing with joy (literally) when the Chiefs called his name on day two of the draft.

Jones was brought on board in case something can’t get worked out for Poe in the long run.

As for Jones’ role with the Chiefs, he’ll eventually be the replacement for either Jaye Howard or Dontari Poe. Poe’s rookie contract will be up after this season, and Howard was signed during the offseason on a two-year deal.

More than likely, Jones was brought on board in case something can’t get worked out for Poe in the long run.

That being said, 2016 looks to be a learning year for the second round rookie. He might see starting time should Howard, Poe, or Allen Bailey go down with injuries, but he’ll have an entire season to sit behind three talented defensive linemen and learn the sport.

I do see Chris Jones being an absolute monster for this defense though, and the preseason indicated what type of player the guy can be. Yes, it’s just preseason, but it’s still nice to see an early round pick make some plays.
