Kansas City Chiefs: Five Things To Watch Vs Los Angeles Rams
By Ben Almquist
Will Any Of The Young Cornerbacks Emerge?
Last week, the Kansas City Chiefs gave Steven Nelson the start opposite of Marcus Peters in the secondary. Nelson didn’t play terribly, especially given the lack of gameplanning that goes into a preseason game. However, there was definitely room for improvement and the Chiefs need it soon.
Phillip Gaines is unlikely to play much, if at all, this week. The Chiefs are clearly investing a lot into his return, but that isn’t something that can be counted on. Gaines has struggled to stay healthy so far in his career. Even if Gaines is healthy for the start of the season, it doesn’t guarantee that he will continue to show the same talent he has flashed so far in his early career.
Kansas City invested in a lot of young corners over the past couple of seasons, and it is time that the investment paid off. Whether that is Nelson, Gaines, or one of the rookies doesn’t matter. They need somebody to do it, and quickly.
