The Kansas City Chiefs hit the practice field again for day fifteen of Training Camp for what is being called a sloppy practice.  That doesn’t matter though as today also marked the return of Jamaal Charles to the practice field.

The Kansas City Chiefs are almost done with Training Camp in St Joseph, Missouri.  With only a few days left, the team got some good news on the missing star players front.  Last night, it was reported by Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole that sources inside the Chiefs organization believe Eric Berry will be returning to the team soon.  That’s great news, though still somewhat speculative.  What isn’t speculative is the news Chiefs fans got this morning when Jamaal Charles suited up for practice.

Even though the Chiefs are currently very well set up at the running back position, the return of Jamaal Charles from the PUP list is still huge.  Charles remains the best running back (and possibly best player overall) on the Chiefs roster.  He is a dynamic big play threat who can score from anywhere on the field both in the running game and as a receiver.  That adds a dangerous dimension to the Chiefs offense.

The Chiefs had told us for some time that Charles would be back before the start of the season, so while this is great news, it isn’t a huge surprise.  Jamaal Charles likely won’t get much, if any, work during the preseason games as the team will want him fresh for the start of the season.  There won’t be much concern about rust either as the team can rotate in Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware as needed.

The rumors of Eric Berry’s return are a different matter.  Though nothing is confirmed, the fact that the Chiefs believe he will be back soon is good news.  If nothing else, it shows that the two sides aren’t angry with one another.  It also means the Chiefs will get some stability in the deep secondary.  Berry probably won’t play much, if at all, in the preseason either, but having him on hand is definitely a big deal.

Another star player for the Kansas City Chiefs in the rumor mill is Justin Houston.  The star pass rusher is on the PUP list and expected to miss several weeks.  However, a photo from a fan on Twitter got everyone talking about him, though some assumptions may have been off base.

It should be remembered that the Chiefs told everyone that Justin Houston, along with Jamaal Charles and Tamba Hali, would be in St Joseph during Training Camp.  He just would not be on the field.  So running into him out there is not a big deal.  A number of fans also made note that he wasn’t on crutches or wearing a knee brace.  That really isn’t telling of anything.  While it’s a good sign that he doesn’t need those things, that is often true of a lot of people this far removed from surgery.

All in all, there is probably nothing to the Justin Houston sighting.  He is in St Joe’s and he looks to be recovering just fine.  Apart from those two things, I don’t really think there is much to base an assumption of his return on.
