Bad:

Inexperience Shows In The Secondary

Overall, the Kansas City Chiefs defense had a very strong showing Saturday.  That includes the secondary who largely held the Seahawks in check until the last second Hail Mary.  However, there were a number of instances where the youth and inexperience of the secondary was on display.

There were several plays over the course of the game that showed just a general lack of understanding of things such as positioning, awareness, and timing.  These are traits that develop with time, and a lot of the players the Chiefs have in the defensive backfield just don’t haven’t picked them up yet.  That was highlighted by the Hail Mary pass.

Veteran quarterbacks will make the Chiefs pay for not having those nuances down.  Coaches Emmitt Thomas and Al Harris have plenty of work ahead of them to get this group ready for the start of the regular season.  It can be done, but it is going to take a lot of effort.  There is reason for optimism though.  This group didn’t look bad, just unrefined.
