#4 A Young Secondary

The Kansas City Chiefs took a couple of blows to their vaunted secondary when Sean Smith was snatched up by the Oakland Raiders, and Husain Abdullah declared his retirement.  To answer that, the Chiefs invested pretty heavily in young defensive backs in the draft.  They have also looked to move veteran corners Jamell Fleming and Marcus Cooper to safety some.

The Chiefs will need someone to step up opposite of Marcus Peters.  If opposing teams can target the other side of the field, it will limit the effectiveness of the Chiefs young star corner.  Philip Gaines, Steven Nelson, Keivarae Russell, and Marcus Cooper all figure to be fighting for this spot and the Seahawks present a good test for them.

The safety position isn’t quite as dire as the Chiefs will still be able to roll out Eric Berry and Ron Parker.  The third safety/Nickel backer role is what is up for grabs here.  Daniel Sorensen looks to be an early candidate for the job, but Eric Murray, Marcus Cooper, and several others are also factoring into the mix.
