Kansas City Chiefs: Training Camp Recap Day Seven
By Ben Almquist
On the field, things weren’t nearly as intense for the Kansas City Chiefs today, but there were still a few big moments that mostly belonged to the defense. The secondary especially seemed to have shown up today as they picked on the quarterbacks competing for the #2 job.
Marcus Peters had an impressive interception today when he read a route perfectly and drove on the ball to cut off the pass and head in the opposite direction. That is a big time trait that he showed off a lot this year, so it’s good to see that he didn’t let that area falter while working on the rest of his game.
Marcus Cooper continued to be impressive in Training Camp. Cooper managed to break up a couple of passes throughout practice. He has looked a lot better this year than last, which is a good thing for him with the increased competition. Cooper is definitely fighting for a job at this point.
Several other players got in on the playmaking today, which is a good sign. Despite the general youth, especially in the secondary, the Chiefs aren’t seeing very much timidity on the field. The youngsters in this organization clearly understand that the Chiefs look for talent anywhere and don’t just give roster spots to anyone. That seems to be driving up the level of competition.
