After practice was over, the Kansas City Chiefs showed not only their lighter side, but just how in tune the team is with its fan base.  Chiefs Kingdom is all to familiar with Fake Andy Reid (Chiefs fan, Chris Wilhelm).  The doppelganger of head coach Andy Reid has made sideline reports during live games, ESPN stories, and just generally keeps the fan base entertained.

For their part, the Chiefs and Andy Reid have openly embraced this, and showed that today when reporters on hand were taken by surprise when Wilhelm, in full getup, took to the podium to give the after practice press conference…complete with his own “Time’s yours” to those taking notes.

This is just an example of the kind of franchise the Chiefs run.  They are open and friendly with the fans who show up to camp.  The players are always available for autographs, there are tons of functions for almost every day of camp, and then the little things like embracing unique fans.  This is what football should be about.

The Chiefs are off and running now with practice incorporating pads and contact.  Now is when we really start to get a feel for what this team is going to be about.  It is impressive that Alex Smith was still able to shine with the defense hitting.  That shows his command of the offense and his faith in his weapons.  The Chiefs need that if they’re going to compete this year.
