2016 Fantasy Football Defenses: Number 13 – Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers could be ranked higher on this list, but there’s a lot of good defenses still to come. The Packers belong on this list due to a high interception rate last season

According to fantasypros.com, the Packers ended ninth in interception with 16 last season. Green Bay faces a few quarterbacks that are prone to giving up interceptions in the first eight games. The Packers defense takes on four quarterbacks who wrack in the top 10 in interceptions thrown last season in the first eight weeks of the season.

Eight of the 16 games the Packers scored nine or more fantasy points on defense and special teams last season. That’s consistency. Green Bay had three games above 15 points. The most points Green Bay scored on defense/special teams came week five against the St. Louis Rams at home. The Packers scored 21 fantasy points in the game.

Quinten Rollins had a 45-yard interception return 53 seconds before the first quarter ended. Rollins racked up eight points on one play. The Packers won the game 24 to 10.

The opportunity for big plays presents itself when a team picks off passes at the rate Green Bay did last season. The Packers returned two interceptions last season.

With Aaron Rodgers quarterbacking the offense, other teams are destined to play from behind forcing the team to throw. This may lead to interceptions for a lucky fantasy team that has Green Bay starting.

The Packers have four good, two bad and ten solid match-ups heading into the 2016 season. Not the best of match-ups but not the worst for the ball-hawking team.

The Green Bay Packers might help a fantasy early on this season and maybe beyond the midway point of the fantasy football season. Don’t overlook this team late in the 2016 fantasy draft.
