Royals That Could Be Traded – Number 1: Edinson Volquez

Edinson Volquez could be the number one target on the Royals team, mainly just because he’d be the easiest for the team to part ways with. Volquez is in the last year of his contract and could be a valuable third or fourth starter for a contending team.

Personally, Volquez being traded is a good idea for the team, but it does beg the question as to who would start for Kansas City next season?

Teams interested in Volquez range from the Rangers to the Giants, and the chances of Volquez being with another team by the deadline are the most likely when it comes to the Royals.

Volquez does have an option with the team next year for $17 million, but it’s doubtful they offer it to him.

Personally, Volquez being traded is a good idea for the team, but it does beg the question as to who would start for Kansas City next season? Sure, Volquez is a free agent regardless of what happens this season, but the Royals need starting pitchers and Volquez was once a solid option for them.

If it weren’t for a few REALLY bad outings (11 runs in one inning, anyone?) Volquez would likely have somewhere in the mid 3.00 ERA range, which isn’t terrible. Good enough for a third or fourth starter anyway.
