Royals That Could Be Traded – Number 2: Wade Davis

For years, Royals fans have been fortunate to have Wade Davis in their bullpen. He’s been the closer since the last half of 2015 and the main closer for 2016 up to this point.

It’s a steep asking price, but as the Cubs’ deal for Chapman showed, teams are willing to trade almost anything to get a dominate closer.

While Davis absolutely gives the Royals a better chance to win next season, did you see what the Cubs gave up to have Aroldis Chapman for just a few months? The Yankees hit the jackpot with that trade, and the Royals could do the same with Davis.

Plus, Kansas City has Kelvin Herrera in line to be their next closer. Most teams don’t have three or four potential closers like the Royals have had in years past. They can afford to trade Davis and potentially get a ton of prospects that could help them in the near future.

The benefit of another team getting Davis is that they get a dominant closer and also would have control over him next season as well.

The Royals have talked to the Dodgers about Davis (which is when the Kennedy rumors also started occurring) and were at one point also discussing trading him to the Nationals. The Royals were asking for Lucas Giolito from Washington, who is considered to be one of the best prospects in all of baseball. All of this according to Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors.

It’s a steep asking price, but as the Cubs’ deal for Chapman showed, teams are willing to trade almost anything to get a dominate closer.

*Update – Wade Davis will likely be hitting the disabled list, which makes a trade unlikely. Why can’t we have nice things?
