Royals That Could Be Traded – Number 3: Ian Kennedy

Ian Kennedy wasn’t a name that people were linking to trade talks until Jeff Passan tweeted out that the Royals were trying to package him in a deal with Wade Davis. Kennedy signed one of the largest contracts in Royals history this past offseason, despite proving to be a mediocre pitcher throughout his career.

Kennedy’s posting a 4.41 ERA in 20 starts this season. He was brought in to eat innings for the Royals and to be a sub-average pitcher. Instead, he’s eaten up just over 114 innings and has given up 26 home runs.

The only problem with trying to trade Kennedy with Davis is that teams don’t want to take on that contract. It’s hard to blame them on that one. Packaging Kennedy with Davis also damages the potential prospects that the Royals could get in any type of deal.

Also, if the Royals trade Kennedy, then who do they have left for 2017? They’re really running out of options for the 2017 season when it comes to their starting rotation. That might be reason enough to keep Kennedy.
