Royals That Could Be Traded – Number 4: Alcides Escobar

Alcides Escobar is a player that I really don’t see Kansas City parting ways with, but his name has been mentioned. Escobar’s name is mainly floating out there due to Raul Mondesi Jr. eventually taking Esky’s place at shortstop.

Mondesi was called up less than a week ago and has been spending time at second base, but the hope is to move him to his preferred position of shortstop in the future.

Escobar is under contract for next season and is someone who could help the Royals win in 2017. That reason makes me feel like the Royals won’t trade him.

Escobar has not had a great year offensively for the KC Royals. He’s slashing .255/.283/.310 through July 29th and has been moved all around the lineup.

The word of Esky possibly being traded first surfaced when Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball mentioned it in the long list of potential trades.

Escobar is under contract for next season and is someone who could help the Royals win in 2017. That reason makes me feel like the Royals won’t trade him, but Mondesi has shown flashes of potential offensively during his few starts so far.

If Dayton Moore decides that Mondesi could help the team more than Esky next season, then Alcides Escobar could be sent to another team.
