For Phillip Gaines, the first day of Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp was about just getting back on the field and into the feel of things.  Unlike Mike Williams, Gaines knows that he likely has a roster spot locked up.  For him there isn’t any need to try and make the highlight reel out the gate, just get his work in and get back up to speed.

As far as that goes, Gaines was largely nondescript in his performance.  Nothing overly good or bad, which falls in line with just trying to get his reps in.  The big news from Gaines’ time on the field was that he squared off against rookie wide receiver Tyreek Hill several times today.

To that end, Gaines spoke highly of Hill, telling reporters the rookie has “speed not many in the world could match.”    That’s a very good sign for the young wide receiver.  The Chiefs have been excited about Hill’s ability as a return man, but in today’s NFL a player needs to be able to do more than just return.  Offensive production is a huge plus for Tyreek Hill.
