Kansas City Chiefs Top Rookies To Watch – Number Seven: DJ White – Cornerback

The Chiefs let veteran cornerback Sean Smith walk in the offseason.  The team is clearly placing a high degree of faith in Marcus Peters and Philip Gaines despite both players being very young.  John Dorsey also drafted three corners who should all have an opportunity to make their mark, including 6th round pick DJ White.

As mentioned, Cooper and Gaines are the current favorites to land the primary corner positions, and second year man Steven Nelson should take the slot.  However, except for Cooper, none of those positions are a guaranteed thing.  That means the recent draft picks will have a fair shot at making their mark.

Apart from those who are returning to the team, White will also be competing with his fellow rookies Eric Murray and Keivarae Russell.  While the odds may seemed stacked against him, DJ White may also be a bit of a wild card because he is known as a quality playmaker.  That’s a trait that is highly coveted in defensive backs.

DJ White seems the least likely of the rookie corners to take the field this year, but he will still have to be ready to go quickly as the Chiefs will certainly need to turn to their depth at some point in the year.
