Alex Smith is elite, almost everyone develops a favorite from the group of clipboard holders.  Kevin Hogan is the new name on the list, and yes he already has a following.

Currently in Kevin Hogan’s way are 2013 UDFA Tyler Bray and 2014 5th round pick Aaron Murray.  Both players have faithful followings in Chiefs Kingdom, but the two probably couldn’t be any more different from one another.

Bray is a prototypical “stand in the pocket” quarterback.  He’s tall, has a big arm, and plays his game between the tackle.  Murray is undersized, with good mobility and an accurate arm.  Both players came into the NFL with some degree of hype after solid college careers.

If Kevin Hogan wants to beat out Bray and/or Murray, he’s going to have to emulate Alex Smith to the highest degree.  Fortunately, that’s where he excels.  Hogan plays safe and smart with the football, and isn’t afraid to use his legs to make a play.  If he can translate that to the NFL level, the Chiefs are going to like him a lot.
