Fifth Toughest Defense in 2016 – Oakland Raiders

As much as it pains me to say, the Oakland Raiders have a legit chance of making the playoffs in 2016. That being said, they haven’t accomplished such a feat in 14 years, so they have a lot to prove, but the silver and black have made strides these past few offseasons.

The Chiefs face [the Raiders] twice a year, and it’s a defense that I really don’t want to even face once a year, let alone twice.

Oakland was ranked 22nd in the league in defense last year, but they’ve added solid pieces, including former Chief Sean Smith. They also added linebacker Bruce Irvin and safety Reggie Nelson, both of whom will boost their respective areas on the defense.

Throw in the fact that the Raiders have former first round pick Khalil Mack, who has proven to be one of the best young names defensively in the league, and the AFC West suddenly became a lot more competitive this year.

Now I’m all for teams having to prove themselves before we start writing them as “the next big thing”, but Oakland could cause problems this year. The Chiefs face them twice a year, and it’s a defense that I really don’t want to even face once a year, let alone twice.

The Chiefs/Raiders rivalry just got more exciting. For the first time in a long time, both teams could be really good at the same time.
