Kansas City Chiefs Top Position Battles – Number Four:  Outside Linebacker

This position was supposed to be locked down, but Justin Houston’s offseason surgery has cast some doubt on what was considered a strength of the team.  And with Hali’s age, the Chiefs need to have an eye on the future anyways.

a.      Tamba Hali – A no brainer as Hali is expected to begin the season as a starter regardless of any injuries to other players.  His age and health is a bit of a concern, but he’s still a solid player.

b.      Dee Ford – It’s got to be now.  He has to break out and show he was worth the investment.  This is the opportunity to do it.  If Dee Ford can be the player he was drafted to be, the Chiefs are in great shape moving forward.

c.      Dezman Moses – A sleeper here, but the Chiefs were quick to bring him back when he didn’t find a market for his talents.  Guys like this can bring surprising talent when called upon, despite being unknowns.

d.      Justin Houston (watch out for) – Truth is, we don’t really know.  At all.  A lot of prognosticating and crystal ball stuff, but Houston may be back sooner (or later) than anticipated.  He’s an athletic freak, and guys like that are hard to keep off the field.

e.      Frank Zombo (not likely) – Zombo has a specific role with this team, and that is to be a leader on Special Teams and fill in at the linebacker spot as needed.  Not a guy to be starting.
